Best Practices - Consulting and Mentoring
Dots Legal supported STEM Space with legal assistance
Pro Bono Provider: Dots Legal
Beneficiary: STEM Space
26.8.2023/23.10.2023
About the Organization: STEM Space, a social enterprise based in Tbilisi, was established to implement Lego-educational courses, focusing on the employment of young people and the promotion of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) and professional education in Georgia. The organization is dedicated to achieving its goals through the following activities:
- Supporting the local population, with a focus on promoting socio-economic integration for various vulnerable groups.
- Organizing and conducting training sessions by incorporating best practices from around the world and leveraging their own experience.
- Planning and executing innovative events.
- Establishing collaborations with both local and international organizations, including various professional associations.
Problem description: The organization's charter and the tenure of its director expired during the execution of rights and duties. To address this, the social enterprise needed to re-register its charter and elect a new leader. As a result of these issues, the social enterprise's account was frozen since the summer period, preventing the completion of financial transactions and other administrative activities.
Services delivered: The legal team, comprising junior lawyer Natia Bagdavadze (8.5 pro bono hours) and managing partner Tsitsia Javakhishvili (4 pro bono hours), provided crucial assistance to STEM Space. They addressed the legal issues surrounding the charter and prepared the necessary documentation for public registry submission.
Result of Pro bono mediation: Thanks to the legal team's efforts, the charter was successfully changed in the public register, and a new director was elected, resolving the administrative challenges that had hindered STEM Space's operations.
Mediator: Pro Bono services are mediated by the Center for Strategic Research and Development of Georgia within the frames of the "Georgian Civil Society Sustainability Initiative”. The initiative is funded by the European Union and co-funded by Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS). The project is implemented by Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS)
